A huge thank you to Sara at Sarade for sponsoring the Futurity classes at the 2018 Championship Show.

AQHA UK Championship Show – Futurity & Maturity 2018

The purpose of the scheme is to promote the wonderful American Quarter Horse and membership of our Association. You need to be a member of AQHA UK and you then need to register your horse, the younger your horse is the cheaper it is to register i.e. a weanling to a 2 year old will cost you £50 whereas for a 3 to 5 year old the fee will be £100. This is a once in a lifetime charge and you will receive a certificate which is transferable to a new owner should you sell your horse. Up to the age of 5 years there are a bank of classes available for you to enter, age related halter classes up to 3 years old, a lunge line class for 2 and 3 year olds, and then for the 4 and 5 year olds there is Trail, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Reining and Ranch Riding. Your success for participating, and hopefully doing well, in any of these classes is that there is a prize fund.

AQHA UK have a ring-fenced Futurity fund, this fund fluctuates based on the amount of payments made to the competitors and the amount of new Registrations received each year to boost the balance. A year or so back these classes were run in both Amateur and Open divisions for one year but has now reverted to only the Open division because it made it doubly expensive and new registrations did not support the extra cost of doing it. I am happy to report that registrations received this year were on the up! A prize pot for each class is made available and £15 of your £25 entry fee is also added to make up the total prize fund, the remaining £10 is added back to the futurity fund. You can see the full rules here www.aqha.uk.com/?s=Futurity

We had 35 entries across the futurity classes this year, the most hotly contested was the Hunter Under Saddle which was taken by Penny Pendle’s Majestic Loper, ridden by Tanya Rowe, closely followed by Lucy Adam’s Consider This Chick and Avril Wilson’s Zips Last Encore.

Another popular ridden class was the Ranch Riding, Lucy Adam’s went one better here and took the class with Consider This Chick. Lucy had a great show, she also took the win in the Trail and was second in the Western Pleasure.

Although the entries for the halter classes weren’t huge those young horses were still impeccably behaved and deserve their cheque! Those lucky enough to be in the money are listed below.

Once your horse reaches the age of 6 you have now aged out of the Futurity, but you are still eligible for the Maturity classes and yes, you can still win money! The prize purse for these classes is made up solely from a £20 pay back from each entry fee. The more that enter the more money you are riding for.

This year we had 14 runs across the Maturity classes and once again those taking the purses are listed below:

Western Pleasure – Ima Smooth Leaguer – Kirsty Scott, shown by Tammy Greaves

Trail – Chexin Early – Marie Gilbert

You can’t win it if you are not in it so get your registrations in early. Registrations must be finalised by 31st August to allow you to compete in that years’ Championship Show and may be subject to a late enrolment fee.

Well done everyone and I look forward to seeing you at the 2019 AQHA UK Championship Show, once more at the Oakridge Arena!
