The Incentive Fund
One of the goals of AQHA is to maintain excellence in the breed. By doing so, we also ensure quality shows. AQHA's Incentive Fund helps assure the availability of the highest caliber show horses and, at the same time, provides owners and breeders with financial rewards for continuing their efforts.

The Incentive Fund allows sire owners to enroll their stallions and his foals in a multi-million dollar payback program. As long as their nominated foals earn points in amateur and open classes at AQHA-sanctioned shows, the stallion owner receives 10% of each point value the horse earns. Once a foal is nominated and the fee paid, the nominator receives 10% of each point value the horse earns no matter who owns or shows the horse. 80% of each point value goes to the point~earning horse owner.

Since its inception in 1983, the Incentive Fund has paid out more than $21 million dollars to nominators and owners. Incentive Fund participants receive an average check for $268 each year. The Fund has paid an average of $2+ million each year since 1990 with points averaging above $30 each.

The Incentive Fund also increases the worth of the pedigree. The only way horses can participate in this program is if they are sired by an Incentive Fund stallion. This means more mare owners and show exhibitors look for those sires and their get, increasing the value of the enrolled stallion. It also provides a good barometer to the value of a stallion's bloodline.

The Incentive Fund fee structure provides stallion owners an equitable opportunity to participate. Sliding scale fees are based on the number of mares bred during the previous season. Foals born after 1997 can be nominated before 7 months of age at a cost of $100; $200 at 7 to 12 months; $2,000 from 12 to 18 months; or $5,000 from 18 to 24 months.
