How the Selection Process Works Print E-mail

To be eligible for the 2008 Youth World Cup you must be 14 years of age by the 1st of April 2008.

In Summary: The selection for the 2008 Youth World Cup will be based upon your performance. The breakdown of performance points are as follows;

  • 60% from your performance in the Qualifying classes
  • 30% from your performance in the Assessment Clinics
  • 10% from your performance in Citizenship

The Coach: We have arranged to utilize the individual talents from several trainers throughout the country. By having more than one trainer, more events and abilities can be catered for. Therefore, all the youths should receive well-rounded training. For the 2008 World Cup, we will use an American Coach, Debbie Cooper has put her name forward. This will not exclude any of the UK trainers from going. Having an American coach will serve as an additional education for both youths and coaches.

The Process:

  • I Registration: Starting Now
Simply let Christy Leach know that you wish to participate in the next 2008 Youth World Cup and fill out the ‘Youth Personal Detail and Contact Information’. All the information and forms required can be downloaded from the AQHA UK website.
  • II Assessment Clinics: Starting Jan. 2007
Each participate for the Youth World Cup will be required to attend three (3) assessment clinics. At each clinic, you will need to have with you an assessment feedback form, the instructors/clinicians will fill out these forms with you. The assessment forms will then go to a review panel for any additional observations and then the final assessment score will be calculated the form sent back to the participant. The Assessment Feedback Form can be downloaded from the AQHA UK website.

  • III Qualifying Classes: Starting 2007 Show Season
Qualifying Classes will be held at a majority of the UK shows. The classes will be Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Hunt Seat Equitation. Each class will be judged through all placing.
    • The Point Structure:
    • Each person will get one point for participation, plus one point for every horse they beat. For example if 10 horses are in the class and you win, you receive 10 points.
    • What happens if I DQ? The winner will still receive the same amount of points of the class and the person(s) who DQ’ed will still receive one point for participation.
    • The Horse requirements:
    • Horses which participate in the qualifying classes are required to be Pure or part Bred Quarter Horse. The classes will run as non affiliated class which means that you do not need to ride/own your own horse. Any youth can borrow a horse as long as that horse is a Pure or part bred Quarter Horse
    • Show Log:
    • Each participant is responsible for their own show log. They must keep the show log up-dated and will need to submit them by Oct 15, 2007.
  • IV CLOSING DATE OCTOBER 15, 2007
All show and clinic results together with any other data submissions are due in no later than Oct 15, 2007. Sent to Christy Leach, 17A Hill Avenue, Hazlemere, Bucks, HP15 7JX. Please note: it will be a good idea to keep a copies of anything sent in.
  • V Selection Shortly after Applications received
Selection panel will review all show and clinic results together with any other data submitted for eligibility to go forward to the next stage which is the Team Training Clinics.
  • VI Team Training Clinics
Centre of Excellence training facilities will be created. These facilities will specialize in various disciplines which are required at the Youth World Cup. Again several trainers will help to develop a competitive team.
  • VII The Final Selection:
The formal selection, the riding team members, reserve rider, and the leadership members who will attend the Youth World Cup in 2008.

Citizenship: Throughout the entire process
Citizenship is based on your team playing skills and behaviour. This will be measured by several people within the show environment and at the assessment clinics. Your enthusiasm towards helping the team in fundraising, showing some type of community service at the shows will all count toward your overall points. Therefore, this area can be the difference if the scores are close.
