Jessica March

My name is Jessica March and I started to ride seven years ago, when I was finally able to help my Aunt, Susie Anderson at her yard, something I had looked forward to for many years! I started going to her yard every Saturday, and in exchange for mucking out and general stable duties, I was able to steal a quick ten-minute ride whenever I could. I've really never looked back since then. Susie then moved to a larger yard at Sterling Quarter Horses and after a couple of years of hard work on my riding and stable duties, I started to stop getting in the way and become a true help. I then started going both Saturday and Sunday and one day after school, and the same year I got the chance to ride at my first show. Although it was only a small show, I really caught the bug and realized that competitive showing was the direction I wanted to travel. Since that day I've had two show horses, plus my current horse. Each one has taught me so much, not just how to show, but also how to ride, with Susie supporting me every step of the way. My showing and riding has become more and more competitive and I have gone from being last reserve, to first reserve, and at last to a rider at the Youth World Cup. Each year I become even more dedicated to the amazing sport of riding, and I now truly feel my hard work is paying off and it's a wonderful feeling. This year I finish my A levels and I'm taking a well earned gap year from school education and hope to carry on with my love of riding and learn as much as I can. I'm also hoping that one day I can pass on all the techniques I've learnt to other Youths wanting to go to the Youth World Cup and I just want to thank (in true Oscar style) my parents and Susie, because without them I would not be in the place I am now!
