Sun, rain, riding,
horses, ponies, riding , good food, great campfire stories, discussion and debate, oh and riding, relaxation great scenery laughter, oh and
riding ,playing in the river, being entertained
by the dogs, and riding.
Those of you who didn’t come, missed a great weekend. Would
have been your last opportunity for a while as the organisers are taking a
break next year. Its been 10 years now and the ride has changed from a one day
forest ride into the 3 dayer it has now become. We have raised around £1800 for
charities over the years and around 100
people participate in the event. Time for a year off and lets see what 2011
brings!
Happy trails

Santon Downham
Summer Camp 2009
By Claire Evans
aged 11
This July my family and I took part in the 3 day horse camp
at Santon Downham in Thetford forest. I took my pony William and his girlfriend Forest, a little grey mare. She gave
some other children rides as well as me. The weather was really warm, which
helps when you’re sleeping in a tent. On Saturday it was so warm some people even
jumped in to the river and played with the boat, but we had to be careful of
the swans and there babies. The dogs really enjoyed this bit.
There were some
really nice people and horses there to ride with. We all enjoyed getting to
know each other. We rode mainly in the forest but at one point we crossed a
rail way line, a noisy train had just raced past, then we went under a scary
low bridge, most people had to duck right down
right down but I didn’t on my small pony! In the evenings we all sat
around the camp fire and chatted whilst we ate are lovely food, us children
especially enjoyed cooking the marshmallows (some of the grownups did too).
By the end of the weekend we had ridden for hours we were
all fairly tired but happy and ready for a bath.
Thank you Chris for organising it, it was great fun.
