The British Reining Council today announced the riders who have been selected to represent Team GBR for 2009.
The Team, Doug Allen, Tammy Greaves, Lee Rutter and Francesca Sternberg
were selected from a list of 9 riders who had put their names forward.
David Deptford will be the reserve rider.
For Lee Rutter, this will be his first appearance representing his country at senior level and the news reached him on the same day that he became a father for the second time.
Doug, David, Tammy and Francesca have all been part of Team Great Britain before, including the World Reining Championships in Italy last year where they came so close to winning the first ever team medal for British Reining.
Adam Heaton, Team GBR’s Chef d’Equipe, said:
“Once again I am delighted with the strength of the team that has been chosen for me to work with and I would like to thank the selection committee for all their hard work. We hope to capitalize on the impetus generated by the incredible result the Team achieved last year and I am confident that this Team has the ability and drive necessary for success.”
The date and location of the European Championships is yet to be decided but British Reining is sure that their members will support the Team in the manner that we have become accustomed to. Chair Peter Lane, speaking today said ‘The encouragement from our members provides a real boost to the Team whenever they compete. I know the interest that was generated by last year’s World Reining Championships has helped raise our profile and I’m sure that this Team will make us proud later in the year.’
