26th February
2010
Formal notice of the 2010 AGM, along with the call
for nominations for election to Council, was sent out with the winter edition
of the Journal in January. The number of nominations received for the election was
less than the number of vacancies so a ballot is not required. The new Council will be announced at the
AGM. The final AGM agenda is now
enclosed.
The meeting is an important Association event and is, of
course, a legal requirement. However, that doesn’t mean it’s intimidating,
overly formal or boring. It does have a
formal structure, and there are certain items of business that have to be dealt
with, but the overall atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Besides providing an
important opportunity for all members to play a part in the management of the
Association and to influence objectives and policies, the meeting also provides
an opportunity to meet up with friends after the winter and to take part in an
informal open forum session to discuss any issues of interest.
This year the day follows the successful new format
introduced last year with the AGM now taking place in the afternoon and
followed by a social evening with a buffet meal, bar, musical entertainment,
and the presentation of 2009 awards. A
break is scheduled between the end of the AGM and the start of the evening to
provide time for those staying in local accommodation to check in and freshen
up.
Attendance at the AGM is open to all paid up members,
including Youth members and it really is worth doing your very best to attend! Tea and coffee will be provided on arrival
free of charge. The social evening is
open to all paid up members and their families.
Tickets are free of charge but are essential. If you have not already done so please send
details of how many tickets you require to Sally
Payne either by email:

If you are a 2009 Award winner, even if you are unable to
attend the AGM itself, please do come to
the social evening if at all possible to receive your award. Your achievement is justly deserved and we
all want to recognise, applaud and share the pleasure of your success with
you.
So please do your best to
attend. Council members work hard all
year to manage the Association. For the
most part it is done with little feedback from members apart from comments
received at shows and other events when we’re always busy. If the Association is to fully deliver your
expectations Council needs your input.
That input is important and it will be valued. We do hope to see you there.
