The American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup is an
international youth event of superior horsemanship, leadership, and camaraderie
among equine enthusiasts from many countries.
The members chosen for Team UK
will represent the United Kingdom not only in their horsemanship skills but
also in international goodwill.
It is important to understand that riders in the AQHA Youth
World Cup will compete on horses donated by the host country and not all horses will be highly qualified or
trained show horses. Teams will draw for
horses to be ridden, and every horse drawn by a team must be exhibited by a
member of that team. No coach, trainer,
or adult will be allowed to ride the horses at any time during the event - all
training and preparation of the horses will be done entirely by the youth team
members.
For these reasons, the qualifying process to select five
riders for Team UK for the 2010 AQHA Youth World Cup will be designed to
identity youth who
- Are
talented horsemen who can get the best results from horses of varying
abilities and Training
levels
- Have
show experience in variety of AQHA disciplines
- Have
a proven record of working cooperatively with peers, as well as,
demonstrating exemplary standards of behaviour and ethics-----
>Citizenship
Disciplines at the Youth World Cup include: Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship,
Western Riding, Trail, Reining, Cutting, Hunter Under Saddle, and Hunt Seat
Equitation.
How the qualifying process
will work
Each Potential Team Member must:
- Complete
the application form in full, along with a £25.00 administration fee
- Submit
two personal letters of reference (members of your family will not be
accepted)- One letter from someone familiar with your horsemanship skills
and one letter from someone who has observed you in a leadership or
cooperative position with your peers (ie a teacher). Please ask each to send their letter of recommendation
to Iain McIntyre on your behalf. Do
not send more than two references. To Be Completed by
Sept. 1 2009
- Submit your show records from your 2008/2009
show season. If you have not
competed in 2008 - this will not be held against you. The show records shall give the results
from competitions approved by any of the following recognized
organizations: AQHA, BR/NRHA, WES,
WPPA, ApHA, UKPHA. An important note is that your show records will only be one
part of the application process. All elements of the show environment will
be considered including number
competing in each class and the level of competition. If official show records cannot be
produced- then your show results must be signed by the Show
Secretary. To Be Completed by Oct 10 2009
- Prepare
a short (approximately 3-5 minute) video of yourself. The content should consist of an
introduction of yourself and a demonstration of your riding ability-
Please include at least two to
three different disciplines. This
video will be used by Team UK's selection panel to evaluate your
personality and riding expertise. To Be Completed by Oct 10,2009
- Be a
Youth in 2010 under the rules of AQHA - any youths under the age of 17 who
make the team must be accompanied by an adult to the World Cup.
- Be a
current member in good standing of AQHA-UK and AQHA for the year 2009 and
2010
- Complete
a basic AQHA rules test- (open book) To Be Completed by Oct
10 2009
- Donate
two hours of your time to help the Youth Team during at least two AQHA UK
2009 Show weekends.
- Submit
all relevant documentation to the Youth Manager on time.
- Fully
participate in fund raising
Shortly after the deadline date for which show records, letters of recommendation, AQHA rules test and videos need to be
completed and submitted – A percentage of the top contenders may be invited to
participate in a final team selection (clinic with mock show)- The date for
this will hopefully be within the Autumn half term holiday. The Team UK should
be announced by the end of the year 2009.
Training will begin first part of 2010-
All team members will be expected to attend at least 75% of training session and to participate in
shows at the beginning of 2010.
It is also necessary to understand the personal expenses
involved for each member of Team UK.
Entry fees and coaching fees are normally paid for by fund raising. However, if the fund raising is not
sufficient to cover such costs then this will be past onto each team
member. Each team member will be
required to cover their own travel expenses.
Please be aware that airfares may be high due to peak travel times and
excess baggage fees maybe incurred.
Parent airfares, hotel, and eating expenses all need to be calculated
in.
Each UK Team Member will be expected to have a valid
passport and the correct medical/travel insurance. Riding Team members will be required to have
insurance which will cover them for International Riding Competitions- which
maybe an additional expense.
The AQHA Youth World
Cup is a really fun experience - no
matter is participating as a riding team member or leadership member- the opportunities to create new friends from
different countries is a life time experience--
Many thanks for your interests in the World Cup--- Best of
luck to you and remember to have Fun!!
