Youth World Cup 2010 - the Epilogue! |
|
|
The Epilogue - by Rob Dalton
Everyone has now returned to reality in the UK. I can
confirm that Jessie took third place in the Showcase Horsemanship. An awards
breakfast was held on the final morning before everyone left. The USA ran
out overall winners, closely followed by Germany. Team UK ended up in 6th
place. At the ceremony Jessie received a leather binder for being overall
runner up in
Horsemanship. Chris received the World Cup Champion Belt Buckle
for Western Riding. Presents were handed out to Patty Campbell and Christy
Leach by the members of Team UK. Now we start looking forward to Kreuth in
2012.............
A very tired Rob
(From website editor - Our grateful thanks to Rob Dalton, who now takes over as Youth Team Manager, every day over the YWC he sent back reports and incredibly good photos in time for them to be added to the site in the morning. Rob, thank you for your hard work)

Saturday 10th July - From Rob Dalton
Today started grey and murky in Oklahoma City on the last day of competition at
the Youth World Cup and it wasn't looking a lot better in the show pen
as Jessie and Chloe failed to make the cut in Showmanship. Western Pleasure
followed with a similar story with Luke and Chloe going out at the go-round
stage.
But then as the sun broke through, Chris and Jessie hit form in the
Horsemanship. Both rode excellent patterns and team UK started collecting
medals again. Jessie took the bronze medal and Chris 5th place.
Chloe and
Chris took part in trail. Chloe, despite her best efforts struck a few poles on
an incredibly tight and compact pattern. Chris was going great and clean
until the final lope over when his horse stumbled over a pole, breakng gait in
the process. We weren't hopeful but after lunch we heard that he had made the
top ten and at the award ceremony came away with 8th place with a score of
69.5. Western Riding followed and once again we had two team members in the top
ten. It was a nervous wait. Chloe took 8th place,
Then finally, Team UK
struck gold as Chris took first place with a score of 71.5. How wonderful to
hear our national anthem at last.
Just the english classes to go and again it
was Chloe who came up trumps with another 8th place and another well deserved
medal in Hunt Seat Equitation. That was the end of the competition proper but
there followed another class held in the main arena of the State Fair Ground.
Jessie was chosen to represent the UK in a showcase of Horsemanship.
Just
the Awards breakfast to go tomorrow, when we should hear our final
placing, before we all head back to the UK.
Thankyous go to team manager,
Christy Leach, the sponsors, the Kyle family, for their hospitality, the horses'
owners, for kindly offering their horses for the competition, the parents
(who paid for it all!) and the team themselves, a great bunch of youngsters, who
have once again been great ambassadors for AQHA-UK. The biggest thankyou I
have left until last and that goes to our coach, Patty Campbell who worked
tirelesly throughout. What a wonderful woman!

Friday 9th July - From Rob Dalton
This morning started with the alarn sounding at 5 am and I am sitting here now
typing at near midnight with the prospect of another 5am start tomorrow.
Yesterday was great day with medals for Jessica, Chris, Anthony and Luke. Chloe
also had a good day making the final cut in both pleasure and hunter under
saddle and was unfortunate not to get a top ten placing. The highlights had to
be Jessica's silver medal in showmanship and Chris's bronze in wesern riding. An
altogether successful day put Team UK in 5th place overall by the end of the
day. That was a place that needed to be maintained as we had little chance of
catching the teams ahead of us.
Today was reining day. It started with a draw for horses, quickly followed by
every reiner's dream, a clininc with the great Shaun Flarida, probably best
known as the rider of Wimpeys Little Chick, all time NRHA top money earner. Luke
and Anthony took part. The competion resumed at 1pm with the first of 32 reining
runs. Luke was first to go for the UK and looked to be putting in a very good
performance until just before the end when he 'rolled back' the wrong way. He
was gutted to zero score but it is so easily done when competing on a stage like
this. Anthony went toward the end of the competition and also had a good run but
failed to make the top ten under judge Marilyn Randall. He did creep into the
top ten under Lyle Jackson, however, to add what could be a valuable point to
the UK points tally.
Tomorrow sees the last day of competition with Team UK hoping to get back
into that 5th place. Keep your fingers crossed and try tuning in to watch the
live streaming to see what a great job this team is doing.
